QUEENIE SINGH SETHIA

I believe fashion can often be perceived as frivolous; it requires constant adaptation based on one’s mood, the times, body type, and personal evolution. Having a personal style is more important than merely following trends that others admire. I don’t subscribe to emulating styles if I don’t feel good about an outfit I wear. If I don’t feel good in my outfit, I won’t leave the house. It is essential for me to feel confident in what I wear, so I prioritise comfort, especially when it comes to shoes, to ensure that I don’t ruin my evening or my day. Trying on shoes is crucial, as it can make a significant difference. In addition to comfort, I believe that adding a touch of glamour and a certain amount of sex appeal can elevate a look, along with making a bold statement and introducing a sense of freshness…”

C&B: “Queenie, congratulations on appearing on the CITY & BEACH INTERNATIONAL BEST DRESSED LIST 2025. Which fashion designers would you say are your favourites?”

QSS: “Thank you! I have always admired Giorgio Armani, Versace, Roberto Cavalli, and Indian designers like Monisha Jaising and Tarun Tahiliani & Manish Malhotra. Manish Arora’s unique, one-of-a-kind designs also stand out to me. My tastes shift seasonally, and I enjoy exploring new collections and designers that resonate with my sense of style. I’m not loyal to any designer in particular, it really depends on the collection of the season…”

My style is grounded in comfort with a flair for glamour and making a statement. I believe that the outfit should complement my body type, so I’m meticulous about fit and dressing appropriately for every occasion. Whether it’s a wedding or an intimate dinner, I lean towards glamorous, bold styles that bring a touch of elegance and confidence…”

C&B: “Besides designers, are there any style icons that you would say influence or inspire how you dress?”

QSS: “My personal style inspirations are diverse, ranging from Princess Rania and Lady Diana to Queen Elizabeth’s extraordinary jewellery collection. It’s not just about the clothing but about the complete look, including jewellery and accessories. I admire Dua Lipa’s bold style and the timeless Indian elegance of actress Rekha; the way she puts her Indian attire together is something I have always admired. I prefer incorporating trends that suit me rather than following them blindly. I will not pick up a magazine and say, ‘I must have this,’ as I aim to create a unique style of my own that resonates with who I am…”

I take dressing up for events seriously. I hosted a Diwali event in India, where I wore a bright orange saree paired with gold jewellery and accessories. I also enjoy dressing up for Halloween – one year, I went as Daenerys from Game of Thrones, complete with a wig and costume. In Dubai for a friend’s 50th Birthday, I wore a pink dress adorned with sequins. When I’m in LA, I dress appropriately for business meetings…”

Places I love to visit include ‘Annabel’s’ (above, right) and ‘Oswald’s’ (above, left) in London, ‘Amazonico’ and ‘Café de Paris’ in Monte Carlo, and ‘The Byblos Hotel’ in St. Tropez. In India, I enjoy ‘Golden Dragon’ at the Taj in Mumbai and ‘Royal China,’ as well as ‘Maya Beach’ in Phuket, plus ‘The Oberoi Hotel’ in Delhi. I never leave home without a stylish bag that complements my outfit – a larger bag during the day and a smaller bag at night – along with jewellery: bracelets, earrings, and rings are my staples. As a jewellery designer, incorporating statement pieces into my everyday look is second nature to me. In my bag, I always have a few essentials: a hair clip, lipstick, concealer, a hairbrush, a small perfume, and, of course, my wallet with credit cards. Concealer is a must, especially after long flights or late nights; it keeps me feeling fresh and ready…”

C&B: “Lastly, Queenie, do you have a favourite piece in your wardrobe that you wear regularly that you always feel great in?”

QSS: “Yes, it’s a black-tie Monisha Jaising gown that doubles as a saree, fully embroidered with a beautiful flow that hugs the body perfectly. I believe in fitness to wear the pieces I love. Additionally, I have about 30–40 Herve Leger dresses and a stunning gold sequin dress also from Herve Leger that I absolutely adore. Looking back, my favourite outfits have often been those I can slip into effortlessly, like a Plein Sud black sequin dress. These pieces are timeless, comfortable, and make me feel confident…”
